According to Wikipedia, the name is found in 2 Timothy in the Bible. He was a friend of St. Paul and the name means "bringing profit". He was a martyr and is Saint Onesiphorus. In my family, his great and 2nd great grandfathers were also named Onesiphorus. They lived in Essex County, MA. I also wonder what they called him! I'm just tickled to have a photo that's so old and obviously the original.
